Wenn man dem blutigen Pfad Soulflys über die Jahre folgt, wird schnell klar, dass „Omen" mit seiner Aggressivität und erschlagenden Impulsivität einen weiteren Meilenstein in der Bandhistorie darstellt, und seinen Vorgänger "Conquer" an Fanatismus fast in den Schatten stellt.
Die elf Songs von „Omen" lassen die geschätzte SOULFLY-Soundtradition weiterleben; Bobby Burns zerstörende Bassriffs auf dem Opener „Bloodbath and Beyond" und Joe Nunez' starkes Drumming geben direkt zu Beginn der Platte einen packenden Eindruck davon. Lead Gitarrist Marc Rizzo brettert mit seinen Soli durch die Songs, lässt jedoch genug Freiraum für Melodien und Grooves, z.B. bei dem Titel „Lethal Injection". Schließlich zerschmettern Max' unverkennbare Stimme sowie seine Riffarbeit die Gehörgänge des Zuhörers komplett.
Und mit diesen Überraschungen verspricht er nicht zu viel, denn manch großer Name aus dem Metal-Genre krönt das Album mit einem einschlagenden Gastauftritt. Einer davon findet sich bei "On Rise Of The Fallen", wo Max zusammen mit Greg Puciato von der Band Dillinger Escape Plan eine schizophrene Stimmtriade ausfechtet: "I met Greg during a Deftones show in LA," sagt Max. "I told him that he should drop by the studio if he wanted to sing something. He loved the song from the beginning, but he told me he wanted to make it epic. Greg did the chaotic, high-pitched, Dillinger Escape Plan vocals, but he also did some melodic vocals at the end that gave the track another dimension. The song blows me away, and it continues the tradition of Soulfly collaborations."
Für den Song "Lethal Injection" hat Max einen alten Freund ins Boot geholt. Niemand anderen als Prong's Tommy Victor. "Tommy did a killer job on the vocals. I've loved Prong since the early days. Prong was part of a Pantera tour Sepultura did. It's really cool that he's on this record now."

Für die B-Seite wurden die Sepultura Songs "Refuse/Resist" mit seinem Sohn Zyon Cavalera und „Your Life, My Life" zusammen mit seinem Sohn Igor Cavalera re-recorded.
Max nahm den Silberling zusammen mit Logan Mader (Cavalera Conspiracy, Gojira, Devildriver) in den Edge Of The Earth Studios in Hollywood auf. Er betrat das Studio mit zehn Riffs und verließ es mit einem Metal-Meisterwerk, was bereits aus den ersten Klängen des Openers „Bloodbath and Beyond"deutlich wird.
"Omen" kann im übertragenen Sinne tatsächlich als Omen für die Zukunft der Band gedeutet werden.
"This is Soulfly's seventh album. With Sepultura, I only did six albums. Soulfly survived the times. It survived the crisis. After it took off with the first record, I never stopped or looked back. I just kept going. We're going to the future with Omen. Metal is still alive and kicking. Because you get older, it doesn't mean you need to get boring. The older I get, the more psycho I get. The albums get heavier and more aggressive. That's the message of Omen. Music is all I know how to do. It's all I like to do. This album just reaffirms that I can keep rocking."
